Today, I will be unafraid

Illustration of a woman standing at the shore, facing a towering wave painted in vibrant splashes of blue and green. Her hair, flowing in shades of red, orange, and pink, merges with the horizon as she gazes at a crescent moon in the distance. The text next to her reads: ‘The current was strong and the tide was great, but this is what she was made for.’ The image evokes themes of resilience, strength, and facing life’s challenges head-on, a fitting symbol for the coming-of-age journey in the 90s.

Today, I will be unafraid.

Not because I know what’s ahead.

Not because I expect it to go my way.

Just because — what would be the point?

I won’t be afraid of what anyone thinks is possible. People say a lot of things.

I won’t be afraid of tomorrow. There’s only ever today.

I won’t be afraid of my own freedom. I will direct it.

I won’t be afraid to make bold choices — or foolish ones. They’re mine to make.

I won’t be afraid of my imperfect self.

I won’t be afraid of getting things wrong.

I won’t be afraid to decide.

I won’t be afraid to step into the life I want.

I won’t be afraid to hold what matters.

I won’t be afraid of winning or losing — both pass.

I won’t be afraid of death.

I won’t be afraid of what I can’t control. There are too many things I can’t control.

I won’t be afraid to enjoy this day, because it’s the only one I’ve got right now.

I won’t be afraid of the unknown. Most of life lives there.

I won’t be afraid when people don’t understand me. Most people don’t understand themselves.

I fear one thing only:

an unlived life.

Quote: Just for today, I will be unafraid. Especially, I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful, and to believe that as I give to the world, so the world will give to me.
